FAQ's
Does tallow protect against UV rays?
Nope, and it’s not supposed to.
Non-nano zinc oxide is the real UV protector, sitting on your skin to block UVA/UVB rays.
Tallow’s job? Nourish, hydrate, and strengthen your skin barrier.
Why do you use non-nano zinc oxide?
Because it’s the safest, most effective UV blocker.
Non-nano zinc oxide stays on your skin’s surface, shielding against UVA/UVB, without absorbing into your body. It’s reef-safe, gentle, and free from the risks of chemical filters.
Why do you use tallow in your sunscreen? Is it cruelty-free?
Tallow is rich in skin-loving vitamins A, D, E, and K and closely mimics your skin’s natural oils, making it deeply nourishing and easy to absorb.
It’s also incredibly eco-friendly, grass-fed tallow requires no pesticides, fertilizers, or heavy processing.
And for the critics:
No land is destroyed, no rainforests cleared.
We’re actually reducing waste by using what would otherwise be thrown away.
Is there a risk of Mad Cow Disease?
There’s zero risk of Mad Cow Disease, our tallow is sourced from Australia, a country with no history of it.
Plus, it’s thoroughly purified to remove proteins and any impurities.
What is the texture like?
The texture is a rich, spreadable cream that feels nourishing, never greasy on the skin.
Why is this sunscreen hard to wash off?
Our sunscreen is water-resistant for long-lasting protection, it won’t wash off easily.
To remove it, just use an oil-based cleanser or a gentle soap and scrub.
Is this makeup and skin-care routine compatible?
Absolutely! It’s non-greasy, absorbs easily, and works great as a makeup primer.
It won’t interfere with treatments like vitamin C, if anything, it doubles as a moisturizer too!
Is it effective in blocking out UVA and UVB (Broad Spectrum)?
Absolutely! It offers broad-spectrum protection against both UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) rays.
Our active ingredient, non-nano zinc oxide, is FDA-recommended and highly effective at blocking both, keeping your skin safe, healthy, and protected.
Is it comedogenic? Will it clog my pores and cause acne?
EarthMade sunscreen is non-comedogenic, so it won’t clog pores.
Tallow mimics your skin’s natural oils, making it easy to absorb and highly nourishing.
That said, every skin type is unique, so we always recommend a quick patch test first.
How often should I reapply? Is this water-resistant?
We recommend reapplying every 2 hours while in the sun.
If swimming or sweating, reapply right after towel drying.
It offers up to 90 minutes of water-resistant protection.
Will this attract insects?
Our sunscreen is refined to remove impurities that could attract insects.
Plus, it contains propolis, which may naturally help repel bugs while you’re outdoors.
Where can I find the expiry date, and how long does the product stay fresh?
The expiry date is on the back of the product.
It lasts up to 3 years if stored in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight.
Once opened, use within 12 months for best results, since we don’t use synthetic preservatives.
Why not make DIY Sunscreen?
SPF depends on zinc oxide particle size, mixing method, and texture—all hard to control in homemade sunscreens.
Without proper testing, you can’t be sure you're protected, and that matters when it comes to serious risks like skin cancer.
